If you are interested in exploring theatre or moving forward and gaining hands-on experience in your career, inspiraTO is great way to volunteer and be part of a vibrant theatre festival. Theatre InspiraTO, the producers of the InspiraTO Festival, Canada's largest ten-minute play festival, is entering its 13th season (June 7-16, 2018) with five shows and 30 ten-minute plays on stage. Each year, in late May, over 100 theatre artists and over 30 production crew and support team members gather to be part of high-octane event.
 
The volunteer opportunities are varied from Lighting Designer to Stage Managers, Lighting Operators to Front of House Ambassadors. Most of the roles require minimal to no experience -- just your commitment to learn and grow. There are over 30 various roles!

Leading and calling the production of each show. Ideally you should have some experience in stage managing or be part of a production theatre program in college or university. The Stage Manager calls and runs each show: 6 ten-minute plays, coordinating the lighting operator, sound/projectiontists, and on the Mainstage, assistant stage managers).

Assistant Stage Managers

Working backstage with the actors and coordinating the set changes. No experience required but experience in theatre helpful. The InspiraTO festival has quick set changes between each play (6 ten-minute plays per show) which requires attention to detail and handling over 14 actors per show. There may be room for flexibility depending how many ASMs are selected.

The lighting operator directed by the Stage Manager will ensure the timing of the lighting.

Lighting plays a crucial role for all the plays on the Mainstage with a wonderful cornucopia of projections and lighting.  Work in the booth alongside the Stage Manager and Projectionist. Have a memorable experience.

InspiraTO has a fantastic line up for its upcoming 13th season. You will be helping patrons at the box office, acting as InspiraTO Ambassadors and helping guide patrons to one of the five shows.

You must be available for at least any two shifts. Each shift will be managing one or two performances. You will be requested to attend an orientation closer to the opening dates of the festival -- please state your availability.

Designing the lighting for plays. Experience is required (working with lighting plots etc) but it doesn't need to be extensive. Most importantly we need your commitment and ability to work the Artistic Team. A wonderful opportunity for the right person.

 Program Designer

Designing the program for the festival (layout and design). Experience in Photoshop and InDesign required.

Working closely with the Associate Artistic Director you will design the programs for five shows.

Schedule: Flexible - most of the work will be done in May.

 

We set up the stage on Thursday, May 31 (9 -5), showcasing InspiraTO’s creative set design setting up. We strike on Sunday, June 16.

General Help/Set Design

Make Up Artists

Some experience needed

With over 50 actors, we need two make up artists; you need to be available for the dress rehearsals and performances. Although many of the actors will require basic make up, the sheer number of actors (50) requires good organization skills.

There is room for flexibility on the dates as long as there is at least one Artist for any given show. 

 

Facebook Campaigner

some experience preferred

InspiraTO's Facebook page has a diverse source of content, interest and promotion and acts as InspiraTO's updates and story highlights. You have a solid understanding of facebook.

This is ideal for someone who has ideas on what stories to highlight and would love to be part of a team promoting a theatre festival.

Your time commitment in the early part of the planning is flexible, 2-5 hrs/week in March, and as we get closer to the actual festival, 3-6 hrs/week from April, May and early June (during the performances). 

 

Twitter Champion

When used effectively twitter can play a vital role in theatre. This year we have created four 3D InspiraTO birds that can be used creatively and playfully to convey InspiraTO's message.    
Of Interest: This is ideal for someone who loves to consistently take part in social media conversation and show they are having fun.

Website Coordinator 


Theatre InspiraTO has over 100 theatre artists participating. The website coordinator ensures artists are showcased on the website by listing artists bios, photos, shows etc. You need to be highly organized.
Of Interest: If you like the challenge of coordinating and updating a host of information for a dynamic cultural event you will find this volunteer position stimulating.
